This year there were multiple arenas where people could test their gaming mettle and earn fantastic prizes provided by local and big business that have a vested interest in the gaming community. CarTunes donated a car stereo to be raffled off for our racing arena; The Michigan center for Capoeira gave away 3 months of free lessons as a prize for the fighting arena and Panchero’s provided an excellent burrito and taco feast for all of the event participants to enjoy. But the major draw for Noize was the prize you could only get for devoting time at each area and at all the sponsors, a brand new Xbox 360 – provided by Destiny Games.

Also in attendance was PNC bank and Sprint, who sponsored the ‘Sprint to WIN!’ contest in which a new cellphone had been given to the winner. The United States Army came with a Laptop gaming station and team building exercises, as well as the Marine Corp with a pull-up bar and a gaming station loaded with Starcraft 2.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, there was a performance by Schoolcraft College’s Break Dance Club. Another thanks to Noodles & Company, Family Video and Zap Zone for giving us some sweet passes and gift cards to hand out! This year’s Noize was literally chocked full of content, all while having a 2v2 halo tournament running in the background (major props to Brutus and the local Halo 3 community for coming out!).

And speaking about the tournament…boy was it FIERCE! Ten teams showed up, to duke it out over a pot of $180! Congrats to the winners IcEKiLLeR & DevoN.

Yep, this year’s Noize was a definite success. Now our only problem is figuring out how to make it bigger and better, with more prizes to give out to the gamers and more sponsors to witness the dedication that gamers have to enjoying themselves and connecting with one another. We’ll have to see for Noize 2012! Stay frosty for news on our upcoming third-annual Gauntlet gaming marathon!

-Brian Askew
Director of Chartering
Chairman, Chamber Committee

How do you think gamers can change the world?

Post your answer on the new CGS Facebook page. That's right. Just one.

We'd rather all of our attendees (not to mention SPONSORS) are able to arrive healthy and intact to help celebrate the proceecdings. Well, that and Schoolcraft College isn't even planning on being open. But who are we to judge? So please plan accordingly, tell you friends planning on attending and we'll see you there!

Finally, the CGS Network is in the makings. That's right! Soon members will be able to connect to each other like never before. Collaborate, plan and organize your members and events more effectively with the handy social networking integration. Access to the site will be made available to CGS members and officers ONLY. I repeat, a profile will be made avaible for current and chartering Collegiate Gaming Society members and officers ONLY. Requests will be accepted, and exceptions will probably be made, but be advised. The CGS Network is an organizational tool to help chapters pull together more effectively and collaborate with other chapters in the Collegiate Gaming Society. Prize giveaways, partnership specials and anything else we can think of to make the Network fun and fresh should be expected. Have any suggestions? Check out the contact form ont the CGS hompage here.

Well that's pretty much all I've got for you folks. Today's orientation with the Schoolcraft gaming club was invigorating. Can't wait to see what those guys come up with...

Till' next time,

-Mexx-

Welcome to the blog!

Welcome to the official Collegiate Gaming Society news blog.
